Marlborough, New Zealand
Alongside the Wairau River, Huia’s vines grow in a landscape defined by light—reflected in the Māori name ‘Kei puta te Wairau’, the place with the hole in the cloud. Free-draining alluvial soils, layered with gravel, sand, and silt, provide excellent drainage and low fertility, naturally regulating vine growth and directing energy into concentrated, balanced fruit.
Depth Through Diverse Sites
Our home block in Rapaura spans 6.5 hectares, soon to be joined by an additional 10 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc at Cat Creek (from May 2025). Alongside our own land, we work closely with a handful of dedicated growers across Marlborough—an approach that allows us to take advantage of the nuances and the range of terriors in the sub-regions of Marlborough. From site to site, the land shifts subtly; variations in soil, sunlight, and airflow influence how the fruit ripens and expresses itself. Blending these quiet differences brings depth, texture, and layered complexity to the final wines.
The more life we invite in, the more the vineyard thrives. Wildflowers attract beneficial insects, supporting vine health naturally—each block is its own living, breathing system, working in harmony with the surrounding environment.
We believe wine should reflect its origins. Organics and biodynamics help us honour that, without compromise—farming without herbicides or systemic chemicals, and trusting in nature to lead.
