Organically grown with a deep reverence for tradition, our wines embody a respect for heritage—for the land that shapes us, the values that guide us, and the relationships we’ve carefully nurtured over time.
Inspired by the revered Huia bird—a sacred Māori symbol of honour and partnership. Each feather symbolised status and significance, a gift embodying the deepest respect. In the same spirit, each wine is crafted with deep care and integrity. Our winemaking is thoughtful, unhurried, and driven by a pursuit of purity and balance.
"Handcrafted winemaking was something I wanted to protect, and I’m proud of how Huia has stayed true to that tradition”, Tom Pegler.
We are guided by a single, honest question: Would we choose to drink this?
At Huia the answer lies in starting with the best possible fruit—grown organically on our own vineyards and sourced from a handful of trusted Marlborough growers who share our values. From there, we take a no-compromise approach to quality, using gentle, minimal intervention techniques that allow the wine to speak clearly of its place.
At Huia Vineyards, our wines are carefully shaped by the hands and insight of winemaker Josh Lee. His experience spans from some of New Zealand’s most respected wine names—including Greywacke, Dog Point, Akarua, and Whitehaven. His journey has also taken him across Europe, working with celebrated organic and biodynamic producers in Spain, Germany, Greece, and the UK—including the renowned traditional method house, Nyetimber. Josh’s strongest passions lie in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Sparkling Wine, with a particular interest in small-scale, hands-on, premium winemaking.
Her journey began in distribution, followed by years immersed in the world of importing. In 2010, she formally became part of the Huia whānau as our USA Brand Manager. Since then, her thoughtful advocacy and quiet determination have helped introduce Huia to kindred spirits across the country.
Izzy shares her life with two much-loved cats and her husband, a talented artist who paints native wildlife onto topographic maps. Music, friendship, and beautiful wine are constant threads in her life.
Izzy’s long-standing commitment has helped Huia find its place in the USA.
